My name is Jessica Peterson and I grew up right down the road in Monroe, GA. I graduated from Monroe Area High School-"Go Purple Hurricanes!" I received a Bachelor of Science degree, with a concentration in Outdoor Education, from Georgia College & State University in 2000.
I moved to Hendersonville, NC where I led extended backpacking trips on a fifty mile section of the Appalachian Trail for the Trailblazers Program. This program was designed for fifteen and sixteen year old students aspiring to become camp counselors for Kanuga Summer Camp. I worked at Kanuga's outdoor school, Mountain Trail Outdoor School (MTOS), in the fall and spring months leading high adventure and environmental courses for students from all over the southeast. I taught a variety of courses including rock climbing, high ropes course, mountain ecology, water ecology, geology, canoeing, and orienteering-just to name a few! I also taught in Pescadero, CA at Exploring New Horizons Outdoor School (ENH) during the winter months. I moved back to the east coast after six months of rain in the redwood forest.
I returned to graduate school at Georgia College & State University where I obtained my Masters of Arts in Teaching degree and my husband-Sergeant Peterson! We relocated from Milledgeville to Monroe where we currently reside with our four cats-Mia, Boo Radely, Suri Cruise, & our newest addition Jimmy Carter. We also have a spunky, independent daughter named Scout! They RULE the Peterson household and our hearts. We enjoy riding our Harley Davidson Road King in our spare time. We've taken motorcycle trips to California, the Grand Canyon, Canada, Key West, and the Rocky Mountains. I'm currently working on my Doctorate degree in Teacher Leadership at Walden University. I have four years invested and counting!
I am really into to RUNNING....trail runs, marathons, ultra marathons , or just to kill time! I completed my ELEVENTH marathon on July 18th in Livingston, TN!
Teaching & learning are two of my greatest passions...my reasons for getting up each morning. I so look forward to learning from YOU!
